A Mother Beyond Birth: A Tribute to My Teacher

For many days, my dreams carried signs - hints of an impending separation from my mother. I couldn’t quite grasp their meaning until yesterday when I received the heartbreaking news of my teacher’s passing. She was more than just a teacher; she was a mother to me and to so many others. A guide who nurtured not just our intellect but our hearts, leaving behind an imprint so deep that no amount of gratitude could ever repay.

For months, I longed to meet her, to speak to her, but life’s endless stream of events kept delaying that moment. And now, in this dimension, that meeting will never come to pass.

I don’t know how to process this loss - there’s an ache in my heart, a quiet sorrow in knowing I will never see her again, never hear her voice. Yet, amidst the grief, her love and kindness remain alive, etched in my heart and memories.

We often hear the words, "Be mindful of how you treat people; you never know when it might be the last time." And today, I feel the weight of that truth. I wish I had called her more often, met her when my heart yearned to. We live under the illusion that we have time, caught in the rush of life while it quietly slips away.

Yet, even in this loss, gratitude remains. I am deeply blessed to have known her, to have been shaped by her dedication and warmth. I may have lost a mother, but her love still walks beside me, guiding my path.

A Simple Ritual to Honor and Let Go

If you, too, have lost someone dear and wish to find closure, here is a simple ritual:

  1. Find a quiet space – Sit in a place where you feel connected to them, perhaps near a photograph, a candle, or in nature.

  2. Write them a letter – Pour out your unspoken words, regrets, gratitude, and love onto paper.

  3. Express your emotions – If tears come, let them. If a smile arises, embrace it. Feel everything fully.

  4. Light a candle or incense – Offer it with a prayer, an affirmation, or a simple, heartfelt thank you.

  5. Let go with love – You can keep the letter, place it somewhere meaningful, or release it by burning it safely, letting the ashes carry your love into the universe.

Loss is never easy, but love transcends time and space. As we let go, we hold on to the essence of what truly remains—love, wisdom, and the indelible impact of their presence in our lives.
